Rain Room is an immersive art installation in Melbourne’s St Kilda that allows you to walk through a downpour of continuous rain without getting wet.
Motion sensors detect the movements of the human body as visitors navigate through the darkened space, becoming performers in this intersection of art, technology, and nature.
Please allow 25-30 minutes from your ticketed session time to experience Rain Room. This allows for your introduction to the work, 15 minutes inside Rain Room and time to explore the gift shop after.
We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes prior to your session to ensure you have adequate time to park in St Kilda and store your belongings in provided lockers.
Session start times are to be strictly observed. Visitors who arrive more than five minutes after the start time may not be admitted to the exhibition.
Should you miss your scheduled time, we will endeavour to accommodate you if a subsequent spot is available. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a rescheduled visit.
The No.16 tram runs from the Melbourne’s CBD to St Kilda, with several stops located along Fitzroy Street. The No.96 tram also runs from Melbourne’s north to St Kilda. We recommend disembarking at Stop 135 Acland Street, opposite the Prince Hotel.

Exclusive to Black Star Pastry’s St Kilda store (located under Rain Room on Acland Street), the Rain Cake is quite literally the dessert after the sensory feast that is a walk through this globally significant work. While the Rain Room indulges your sense of sight, touch and sound, the Rain Cake closes the sensory circle, delighting your sense of smell and taste.
